Licenses

Overview

The DSM16p system must be properly licensed. The basic license for DSM16p will support up to 16 telephone sets. The actual number of sets supported will depend on the total number of extensions the UCX is licensed for as well as the physical hardware. The DSM16p will physically support up to 16 Nortel/Avaya BCM/Norstar, Meridian 1 / Cs1000, and select Avaya (9504, 9508) digital telephones.

If you did not receive an installed license with your product, you must obtain a license from E-MetroTel and activate the license on the system.

You can verify if your DSM16 is already licensed as follows:

DSM16 Activation Process

Child Serial Number Registration

After you purchase a DSM16p, you must use the E-MetroTel Child SN (Serial Number) Registration tool available through the E-MetroTel Partner Portal to register the DSM to its' parent Galaxy, cloud, or virtualized software based UCX system.  You will be required to provide the serial number of the UCX that the DSM16 will be associated with.  This can be found either through the UCX Web-based Configuration Utility, on the UCX chassis label, on the outside of the original shipping box of the UCX, or on the invoice associated with the purchase of the UCX or within the Serial Number Records system.  The UCX Serial Number will be known as the "Parent Serial Number" for your overall system.  The license for your DSM16 will be created on the E-MetroTel Serial Number Management system and will be associated with the Parent Serial Number.

Activating the DSM16p

Once the DSM16 serial number has been registered as a Child to the parent UCX in the E-MetroTel Partner Portal, you are required to activate the DSM16p though the DSM16p Web-based Configuration Utility.

  1. Open the DSM16p Web-based Configuration Utility
  2. From the System tab, select Licenses
  3. From the left side column, select System Activation
  4. Values are required for each of the starred (*) items.

    • Reseller Name: Must be a valid Reseller Name that is registered with the E-MetroTel Serial Number Management system.

(Note: this field is only empty if the unit is still in "In Stock" status on the E-MetroTel Serial Number Management system.  The Reseller Name will be pre-populated on the form if the unit has been moved to "Sold To" status on the E-MetroTel Serial Number Management system.)

    • Reseller Email: Must be a valid reseller email address registered to the account associated with the Reseller Name (shown on the previous line item) within the E-MetroTel Serial Number Management system
    • Customer Name: The name of the customer that the system is being configured for (No verification)
    • Customer Email: The email address of the customer that the system is being configured for (No verification)
    • Customer Phone: The phone number of the customer that the system is being configured for (No verification)
    • Site Name: The name of the customer site where this system is located (No verification)
    • Serial Number of UCX Server: The serial number of the UCX software that this system will connect to (i.e the "Parent Serial Number" - see above for description of where to find this number)

All of these items are required to be entered before the system can be activated, but the only item that is verified for accuracy is the Reseller Email.  The Customer information allows both the reseller and E-MetroTel to more readily identify particular systems.

    1. After the required information has been input, click Activate.  The DSM16p will send the entered data to the E-MetroTel Serial Number Management system to verify the Reseller Email and Serial Number.

    2. If there are any issues, the DSM16 will display a failure message on the Web-based Configuration Utility browser screen indicating the issue. (In this example, the email address did not match what was on file in the E-MetroTel Serial Management Tool database for this particular reseller.)

    3. If the Activation was successful, the System Activation Page will be updated as follows:

    4. In a successful activation, the DSM16 will communicate with the E-MetroTel Serial Number Management system and the serial number of the DSM16 will become associated with the serial number of the Galaxy Mini input in this field, and no additional license string information will be required.  A successful activation will also initiate the start of the Software Subscription and Hardware Warranty services for the DSM16p, and the renewal date determined by the E-MetroTel Serial Number Management system will be displayed at the bottom of this page.
