Transfer

There are three types of call transfer: Attended transfer and Asterisk Blind transfer, and Asterisk Attended transfer.

  • Attended transfer is used when a discussion is needed with the party receiving the call transfer. During the discussion, the other party is connected to Music On Hold.
  • Asterisk Blind transfer is used when there is no need to consult with the party receiving the call transfer.
  • Asterisk Attended transfer is used when there may be a need to have all three parties connected prior to transfering the call. 

To Transfer an active call using Attended Transfer

Type Steps Notes
XSTIM Phones with Transfer softkey set to Attended Transfer 1. Press the Transfer softkey.
2. Enter the other number you want to call and press the Call softkey.
3. When the other party answers, you can consult with the other party first.
4. To connect the other party with the original caller press the Transfer softkey.
The original caller is placed on hold while you are transferring the call.
Recall is not supported    

To Transfer an active call using Blind Transfer

Type Steps Notes
All phones 1. Dial ## , the system prompt will say "transfer" and present dial tone.
2. Enter the extension you want to transfer the call to.
3. The call is immediately transferred.
 
XSTIM Phones with Transfer softkey set to Asterisk Blind Transfer 1. Press the Transfer softkey.
2. Enter the extension you want to transfer the call to. When the call begins ringing on the other set the original party will be connected directly to the extension you just dialed.
 
Recall The transferred call will ring for the duration of the target extension's Ringtime value (default = 20 sec), at which point the call will begin ringing the original transferor's extension. The Recall function will proceed only if the following conditions are met:
  • The target extension (transfer-to) must not have voicemail configured
  • The target extension (transfer-to) must not have Optional Destinations defined for Busy or No Answer conditions

 

To Transfer an active call using Asterisk Attended Transfer

Type Steps Notes
All phones 1. Dial *2 , the system voice prompt will say "transfer" and present dial tone.
2. Enter the extension you want to transfer the call to.
3. Once the extension is dialed you can perform the following actions:
 a) You can consult with the other party first before transferring the call.
 b) complete the transfer by pressing *2 or by hanging up
 c) conference both parties into a three-way conference by pressing *3. Any party may hang up to exit the conference.
 d) swap between the two calls by pressing *4. You may cancel
 the transfer and return to the original caller by pressing *5.
 e) You can cancel the transfer using *5
The original caller is placed on hold while you are transferring the call.
XSTIM Phones with Transfer softkey set to Asterisk Attended Transfer 1. Press the Transfer softkey.
2. Enter the extension you want to transfer the call to.and press the Call softkey.
3. Once the extension is dialed you can perform the following actions via softkeys:
 a) You can consult with the other party first before transferring the call.
 b) complete the transfer by pressing Transfer or by hanging up
 c) conference both parties into a three-way conference by pressing Conference. Any party may hang up to exit the conference.
d)  swap between the two calls by pressing *4. You may still use the TransferConference, and Cancel keys.
e)  cancel the transfer process by pressing the Cancel softkey and you will be reconnected to the original far-end party
The original caller is placed on hold while you are transferring the call.
 
Recall The transferred call will ring for the lesser of 15 seconds or the duration of the target extension's Ringtime value (default = 20 sec), at which point the call will begin ringing the original transferor's extension.  

To Transfer an active call to Voicemail Box

Type Steps Notes
All phones 1. Dial ## , the system prompt will say "transfer" and present dial tone.
2. Enter #* followed by the mailbox you want to transfer the call to. (For example, to transfer to the mailbox of extension 200, enter #* 200.)
3. The call is immediately tranferred.
The Voicemail Direct Dial Prefix #* value can be changed by the system administrator.
