Configuring Survivability Options on the UCX SRG system

Configuring the Remote Office for SRG Operation

To enable the SRG functionality of your UCX server at the remote locations, you must configure survivability options. At the minimum, you must configure the following settings:

  • Enable the SRG Mode
  • Specify the Primary Main Office Address (IP address or domain name)

We also recommend that you review and configure the following settings that define the behavior of the UCX server when connectivity with the main office (MO) is compromised:

  • Define the Lost Connection Count and Lost Connection Period values (losing the connectivity with the MO at least "lost connection count" times during the "lost connection period" indicates an unstable connection)
  • Define the Suspend Duration (the amount of time for which the SRG Mode is to be suspended when the connection is unstable)

To configure survivability options, perform the following steps:

  1. Open the UCX Web-based Configuration Utility
  2. From the PBX tab, select PBX Configuration
  3. From the left side column, under Settings, select Survivability Settings
  4. Set the SRG Mode option to Enabled
  5. In the Primary Main Office Address field, enter the IP address or the fully qualified domain name of the primary main office server
  6. In the Primary Main Office Port field, enter the port number used by the primary main office server for communication with Nortel IP phones
(If the main office system is a UCX server, the default port for Nortel IP phones is 7000)
  7. In the Secondary Main Office Address field, enter the IP address of the fully qualified domain name of the secondary main office server
  8. In the Secondary Main Office Port field, enter the port number used by the secondary main office server for communication with Nortel IP phones
  9. If you want the SRG mode to be suspended when the connection to the main office server(s) becomes unstable, enter values in the Lost Connection Count, Lost Connection Period and Suspend Duration field that suit your needs
  10. Press the Submit Changes button to save the configuration
The Lost Connection Count, Lost Connection Period, and Suspend Duration settings can be used to minimize the continual switching back and forth between SRG modes of operation if there are frequent intermittent network interruptions between the branch and main offices.
